Hello dear friends.
As always...I don't really know what happened this week. It already
seems so long ago. Time, for a missionary, is a strange thing.
One notable, marvelous event: the dedication of the seventh temple in
Brasil, in Manaus! Folks, this is such a huge thing. These people had
to travel SO far to get to a temple, traveling by boat, plane, and who
knows what else. Now they have one right in Manaus! This last Sunday,
we didn't have sacrament meeting. We all traveled to the stake center
in the middle of the city to watch on the big screen. I'm grateful
that I have a current temple recommend -- they required it on entry.
"Seja bem vinda ao templo," my stake president said, just like they
say at the temple, and I felt a rush of excitement. I miss going to
the temple so much! And at this dedication I felt like I was there.
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorom of the Twelve dedicated the
temple. He is a man called of God, I know this with certainty. I know
the priesthood is real, and each temple on earth has the power to seal
on earth and in heaven.
This may be my penultimate e-mail in Petrolina, my third area on the
mission. I love it here. I have made friendships that will last at
least a lifetime.
You can still write if you want. I still love letters. :-)
Thank you all for everything. Stay strong. And never be afraid to open
your mouth.
Sister Petty
